Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College Kolkata was established in 1873. The former names of the college were Sealdah Medical School and Campbell Medical School. The college was later renamed as Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College on 19th August, 1950. The name of the college was kept after the name of a great freedom fighter Sir Nilratan Sircar. NRSMC was earlier affiliated to University of Calcutta but later got affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata since 2003. The institute offers admission to undergraduate programmes based on NEET UG scores, postgraduate programmes based on NEET PG scores and doctoral programmes based on NEET SS scores.

The nearest railway station from NRSMC is Sealdah Railway Station which is located 800 meters away and students can reach the campus in about 5 mins. The nearest bus stand is the AJC Bose Road Bus Stand. Students can get down there and walk to the institute campus. The nearest metro station is the Esplanade Metro Station which is about 2 kms away from the college. Students can reach the campus in about 10 mins from the metro station.
